MARLIE PERKINS
Marlie began taking weekly horseback riding lessons when she was 6 years old. As a child, she was fortunate to train with several different instructors in several different disciplines, including hunter/jumper, dressage, and three-phase eventing. In high school, Marlie joined the NHHEST riding team where she met Ellie Rewucki. Outside of NHHEST, she competed in local hunter/jumper circuits and was NH Reserve Champion in the 2'6 Open Equitation over Fences division.
Marlie attended the University of New England to study Environmental Science and Animal Behavior; there, she was captain of the school's IHSA riding team. The team practiced out of High Standard Stables in Wells, Maine, where Marlie eventually became assistant trainer and manager. As a senior in college, Marlie completed a "horse training internship" where she started her first horse with assistance from trainer Jackie Blackwell.
After graduating, Marlie worked as a wildlife biologist. This journey took her to Central America, where she lived for four years and founded a nonprofit animal rescue organization called SOS Animales.
Marlie began working for Great Island Riding Academy in July of 2021 after reconnecting with long time friend, Ellie, during a visit back to New Hampshire. Marlie has felt at home working for Great Island Riding Academy since day one and is devoted to the success and happiness of her students.
